A woman has admitted driving the wrong way along the Sandwell stretch of the M5 for four miles whilst under the influence of alcohol. Katy Homer appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (20 February) to answer a charge of dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, relating to an incident in the early hours of 4 December 2013.

The 26-year-old care assistant was stopped after officers dealing with a separate traffic matter spotted a Vauxhall Astra leaving the motorway at junction 1, up the entry sliproad. Cameras on the motorway showed the car having driven into the path of vehicles, including heavy goods lorries, as she travelled north from Oldbury to West Bromwich on the southbound carriageway.
